Google Base Data Feeds in Magento

Data Feeds are a great way to increase traffic and revenue on your site.

Google Base is Googles shopping search engine, and it can drive massive amounts of traffic to your site. If you have a site with 1000+ products, you will definitely benefit from a GBase feed. Magento has a built in Google Base Feed, but I wouldn’t recommmend you use it.  Instead, I would recommend one of the Magento Extensions, like GoMage Feed Pro . The biggest issues in setting up any datafeed is that you match up Magento attributes to the data feed attributes. This is not as easy as it seems, as Magento doesn’t have any attributes for condition (new or used) or Product Type (Google’s category tree). There’s also the matter of free shipping, tax rates, etc. The more information you can provide Google in the feed, the better your traffic will be. I suggest you look closely at Google’s data feed requirements, and then setup some datafeed specific attributes in Magento to match up.

Don’t be discouraged if your first attempts don’t seem to work. It may take a few modifications to the feed extension or to the attributes to make everything feed properly into Google Base. The time spent will be well worth it in the long run.
